Job Description:
The Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor/OSAR Counselor provides Outreach, Screening, Assessment and Referral (OSAR) services to persons who have been referred for substance abuse services. OSAR Counselors also conduct SASSI screenings and MIT.

Responsibilities:

• Provide in-person and telephone screening, assessments, and referrals to assist persons in accessing substance abuse services.
• Conduct motivational interviewing and other engagement techniques as appropriate.
• Maintain required documentation on CMBHS and in paper files.
• Promote community awareness of available services through outreach with emphasis on increasing access for priority populations.
• Assume 24 hour/7 on-call telephone crisis duty as scheduled.
• Provide alcohol, tobacco and other drug programs, presentations, and media information as assigned.
• Attends weekly Clinical meeting, any other job-related responsibilities as assigned by Clinical Director.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work Location:

• One location (travel may be required) - Tyler and Pittsburg office opportunities available.

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• On call

Experience

• Must have familiarity with HHSC rules and guidelines with respect to eligibility criteria and availability for HHSC-funded substance abuse treatment services.
• Possess addiction counseling competencies in the eight elements of professional practice dimensions
• Knowledge and understanding of addiction and other problems related to substance abuse
• Knowledge of available community resources
• Knowledge and skills in the Clinical Management for Behavioral Health Services (CMBHS)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work as a member of a team and with other community professionals
• Minimum of three years of sobriety if in recovery from chemical dependency
• Knowledge of professional standards and performs in a manner consistent with the ethics identified therein
• Excellent documentation and computer skills required.

Education

Education and Training Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science or related field (preferred).
• Licensed as a chemical dependency counselor LCDC (or state recognized, equivalent licensure as defined in the Department of State Health Service’s rules)
• Two (2) years experience in substance abuse (treatment and/or intervention).

Preferred Qualifications/License/Certification:

• Qualified Credentialed Counselor

Salary: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
